Kutná Hora
This cultural and historical town enjoys the status of a protected historic site. In the Middle Ages Kutná Hora was the second most important town in Bohemia and at times also the seat of the Czech Monarchy. In the 13th century the town underwent radical development due to rich deposits of silver ore found in the region.
The crowning jewel of the medieval town is St. Barbora's Cathedral built by the most outstanding architects of the Gothic period. Another important Gothic building is the Italian Court with a chapel and tower from 1296, which used to be both a Royal Seat and a mint.
Tourists can visit the Silvermine Museum, St. Barbara's Cathedral, the Italian Court and the Sedlec area with a monastery and ossarium with the bones of about 10.000 dead people.
